I wasn't around when the board was first created, but I'm guessing that this section (the television sect) was an add-on. The original sections for Performance, Ballet & Dancing, and Theater were intended to encompass the "On Stage" primary purpose of the board. The Streaming may have come later. That section really overlaps a lot with the original three on stage topics.
The other sections are rather tangential to the original purpose. The Television Sect is probably misnamed, as it contains music as well as TV.
As for your specific question, it does raise an issue worth discussing by the Mods I think, and I'll bring it up with them. My first thought is that many of the videos posted in the Music thread are not performances, not even live performances in a closed studio. They are entirely studio-video creations for promo purposes. I don't have anything against that. I just wonder if the mods would want to move the entire section to Performance art.
This is really part of a larger problem for all of us. Most of the videos posted in every section originate from online streaming sites like Vimeo and YouTube. Some of them get re-edited and made available from a download site, but still, most originate from a streaming site. A lot of these music videos, as well as a lot of the videos in the On Stage sections COULD be posted instead in the Online Streaming section.
All of this affects access issues for everyone, but figuring out a solution is pretty complicated. And that's not even considering the way the site developed historically and the interests of some of the primary contributors here, who have been around much longer than all of us.
I think we might also want to consider changing the name of the entire Section that contains both TV and Music videos. Maybe to something like Media or Popular Culture.
As for Tipsy's suggestion, that's also a topic worth discussing and might be easier to implement. However, we'd want to think ahead about whether the Girl Band sub-thread would be limited to live performance videos, or also include studio videos.
